The $4 coffee shop refill that finally cracked my daily spending habit
I used to grab a latte every morning on my way into work, like $6 a pop, and I never added it up. Then last March my car needed a $400 repair and I had to pull from my grocery fund, that stung. I started making coffee at home with a $20 french press and a bag of beans that lasts two weeks. Now I put the $6 in a jar every day and it covered my registration fee last month. Has anyone else found a small swap that paid for something boring but necessary?

Did you ever tally up how much you actually spent on takeout lunches in a year? I did that once and nearly choked on my sad desk sandwich, but the real kicker was finding out my daily soda habit was funding my gym membership, which I barely used. Now I just drink water at work and my boring car insurance bill feels like less of a gut punch.
