Hot take: Whole chicken is cheaper than just buying thighs, but the work scared me off for ages
I spent $1.89 a pound on thighs for six months till I finally bought a $0.99 per pound whole bird and got 3 meals out of one roast plus made broth with the bones, so has anyone else been avoiding whole chickens because they seem like too much hassle for one person?

Oh man, I totally get that. I went through a phase where I'd only buy boneless skinless thighs because I was convinced whole chickens were for people who had their lives together. Actually roasted my first one on a random Tuesday night with zero prep and it was way less intense than I expected, just salt and pepper and shoved it in the oven while I did laundry. Now I keep a whole bird in my freezer at all times, feels like a secret weapon for lazy cooking.

Yeah @rowan593 that's exactly how it went for me too, first time felt super dumb but now it's my go-to.
