Cheap flight trick or false hope? My Tuesday experiment changed my mind
I read that booking a flight on Sunday at 3am instead of Tuesday afternoon saves like 20%, saw it on a random forum thread. Tried it for a Chicago to Austin trip, got $87 versus the $112 I was finding all week. Is that timing advice actually real or did I just get lucky, anyone else test the day and time thing with real numbers?
Wait, $87 for a flight to Austin? That part blows my mind more than the timing thing. I have been watching prices for a trip to see my sister and the cheapest I can find is like $180 no matter what day or time I look. Are you flying out of a big airport or something? Because from where I am, I would be thrilled to see anything under $100. I want to test this Sunday at 3am thing myself now, but waking up that early sounds rough. Do you really think the day and time made the difference, or did you just catch a random price drop?
What?! $87? I am sitting here staring at my screen like that cannot be real. I fly out of a pretty big airport too and the last time I looked at Austin it was well over $200, so you must have hit some kind of magic window. Maybe I have been doing this all wrong and my obsession with checking prices at lunch is the whole problem. I have tried Tuesday mornings and even set alerts, but nothing ever drops below like $150 for me. Now I am half tempted to set an alarm for 3am this Sunday just to see if the trick is real or if you just got lucky.
