I finally stopped relying on those $5 hostel lockers after my phone got swiped in Barcelona

Woke up at 4 AM to catch a flight and realized the locker I paid for had been jimmied open sometime during the night, so now I just carry a small cable lock and keep my stuff under my pillow wherever I go... has anyone else had a locker fail on them like that?

Read somewhere that a lot of those lockers use cheap tubular locks that can be popped with a Bic pen. Shitty security all around.

Oh man, you're bringing back a memory. My buddy Jake had this locker at the gym that he always complained about because it was janky. One day he forgot his combination and the front desk guy was like "oh just use a pen" and literally popped it open in two seconds with a Bic. Jake was so mad because he realized anyone could have gotten into his stuff anytime. He ended up switching to a different locker that had a better lock, but I don't think he ever trusted those things again. It's wild how many places use those cheap tubular locks and act like they're secure.
