I finally stopped using those cheap hostel lockers after my bag got swiped in Barcelona

Left my daypack in a hostel locker near Las Ramblas for 2 hours last Tuesday and came back to find the lock cut and everything gone. Has anyone else had luck with those portable travel locks or am I better off just carrying my stuff everywhere?

Nah those portable locks are pretty much useless. They're usually cheap cable locks that can be snipped in 2 seconds with small wire cutters. I had one in Rome and watched a guy open it with a paperclip in like 30 seconds. Your best bet is either the hostel's main reception safe or just keeping everything on you. I started using a small crossbody bag I can sleep with after losing a phone in Prague. Pain in the butt but better than losing your whole bag. Those "security" lockers in bigger cities are often just for show too. The frames are usually flimsy and bolted into drywall.

Did you actually try the hostel safe or just assume it's sketchy?
