My dad's old trick for finding cheap flights is dead now.

Overheard some kid at the airport last month bragging about a $49 flight he got on one of those new budget apps. Made me remember when my old man used to physically go to the travel agent's office 3 towns over to find last minute deals. Has anyone figured out a modern hack that actually works as good as that old school hustle?

42B really was the magic number for me last year. I set alerts on Google Flights for a few cities I wanted to visit and snatched a round trip to Chicago for that exact price. Had to fly out on a Tuesday and come back on a Wednesday though, the weirdest middle of the week days. It's not as reliable as driving to that travel agent three towns over but it still works if you're flexible like that.
