Why I stopped flying budget airlines and started taking the bus instead
I took a Greyhound from Phoenix to Denver last month for $45, and it was way less stressful than any Spirit or Frontier flight I've been on. No baggage fees, no nickel-and-diming for seat selection, and I actually got work done with WiFi. Has anyone else ditched flights for long-distance buses on certain routes?

Oh man, I feel this so hard. I swear, every time I fly Spirit I end up spending more on fees than the actual ticket, and I'm pretty sure the seats are just repurposed lawn chairs. Last time I took a bus from Portland to Seattle, I actually had room to spread out my snacks and didn't have to fight anyone for an armrest. Plus, I didn't have to pretend I wasn't glaring at the person who reclined into my knees.

Last year I added up all my "convenience fees" for stuff like concert tickets and flights and it came to like $200 extra on top of the actual prices. That's not even counting the water bottles and snacks I smuggled in my bag because everything costs an arm and a leg now. @hill.barbara you hit on something bigger than just Spirit airlines here. It feels like every company these days finds a way to charge you more for less, whether it's a bus that actually gives you legroom or a plane seat that barely fits.
