The $60 tire patch that turned into a $500 lesson in checking my work
Last Tuesday I had a slow leak in my truck tire and thought I'd save a buck by patching it myself in the driveway. I watched a couple videos, got the kit for 12 bucks, and patched it from the outside which I now know is the wrong way. Drove to a job site in Greenville and by lunch the patch blew out, the tire was shredded, and I had to call a tow truck. The tow alone ran me 85 dollars, then a new tire cost 420 because the sidewall was toast. I spent two hours messing with a 12 dollar kit and ended up paying over 500 total. Should have just taken it to the shop down the road for a 60 dollar patch job and been done. Has anyone else had a 'savings' move backfire this bad, or is it just me and my stubbornness?
