Unpopular opinion: hitting a $5,000 emergency fund felt like a waste at first
I finally got to five grand saved up after a year of skipping takeout, but I actually felt disappointed instead of proud. Everyone talks about how freeing it is, but for me it just highlighted how far I still have to go on my student loans. Did anyone else feel let down when they reached a milestone?
Jumped right into feeling that same let down actually. I mean, I finally got my five grand and instead of feeling like a financial wizard I just stared at my loan balance like "cool, now I can pay off like three months of interest on this thing." It was such a weird buzzkill. Maybe I wanted a parade or something but instead I just remembered I still owe more than I have. So yeah, totally get the disappointment.
