I spent $2,500 on a 'growth coach' who just gave me basic advice

Hired a guy last fall who promised a custom plan to get my painting business to the next level. After three months and a big check, his big ideas were just 'ask for referrals' and 'update your website photos'. I could have gotten that from a free blog post. It felt like he was reading from a script he gives to everyone. Has anyone found a consultant or service that actually gave you real, specific help that was worth the cash?

Oof, that "reading from a script he gives to everyone" feeling is the worst. My buddy had the same thing happen with a marketing guru for his food truck. Paid a ton for a "custom blueprint" and it was just generic stuff about posting more on social media. He finally found a local business group where retired owners give real, hands-on advice for free. The specific tips he got on his local permits and supplier deals were a total game changer.

Feel your pain, that's a brutal way to learn that lesson.
