The moment I realized I was upselling way too early in the groom process cost me a loyal client

It finally clicked when a regular said 'I just want a basic trim, not a pitch for every add-on' after two years of me trying to sell her teeth brushing and de-shedding before I even picked up my clippers, so now I'm wondering how many other people in service businesses are guilty of pushing extras before building trust?

Stop selling before you start working. People just want the haircut first.

Guess I should stop asking if they want a loyalty card while they're still bleeding

Wait, isn't asking about the loyalty card kinda the worst timing? Like imagine youre sitting there bleeding and someone is like "hey wanna save 10% on your next visit?" Thats just awkward for everyone involved. I get that corporate pushes those scripts hard but you gotta read the room. Some stuff is just common sense you know.
