My neighbor Ron told me I was overthinking my lawnmower carburetor rebuild and he was right

My Ron neighbor story reminds me of the time I spent three weeks fussing with the idle screw on my old Craftsman mower. Did you end up just dumping the old carburetor and buying a new one for like 30 bucks, or did you manage to piece it back together after talking to him? Because I swear I overthink every little engine job until someone just tells me to step back and take the cheap route. It's like we get so caught up in fixing things the hard way when a simple swap would've saved hours of tinkering. Ron sounds like a guy who's been there and probably has a stack of old carbs in his shed that he just gave up on.

Nah I actually ended up keeping the old carburetor, but Ron showed me how to just clean the jets with a piece of wire instead of replacing the whole thing. I get what you're saying about the cheap route, but there's something about making the original part work that feels better than just swapping it out. Plus those $30 carbs from Amazon are hit or miss, sometimes they come with the wrong gaskets or the threads strip out after a month. I spent like two hours on it but now I know exactly how that mower breathes, which is worth more than the quick fix to me.
