My neighbor saw me cussing at my lawnmower and said 'check the little spring on the carb' and I felt like a dummy
Last Saturday I had the whole air filter and spark plug out of my 2014 Toro push mower on the driveway, convinced it was a fuel problem and ready to order a $40 carb rebuild kit. My neighbor Dale walked over with his coffee and said one line: 'Check the little spring on the carb linkage, mine slipped off last spring and did the same thing.' Took me 30 seconds to find it hanging loose, hooked it back on, and the mower fired on the first pull, so I never even opened the kit. I'd been chasing the wrong fix for two weekends and a $12 can of carb cleaner, all because I assumed the worst instead of checking the smallest part first. Anyone else got a 'check the dumb little thing first' story that saved you from tearing apart something that wasn't even broken?
