My main band saw blade snapped right in the middle of breaking down a side of beef yesterday, so I had to finish the job with a hand saw and it took an extra hour.

Debate time: do you think it's smarter to replace blades at the first sign of wear to avoid this mess, or run them until they break to get every last bit of value out of them?

My old shop vac taught me this lesson the hard way. I'd say replace it early because that extra hour of work is never worth the savings. A broken tool at the wrong time costs more than a new blade.

My dad always tried to sharpen his own mower blades. He spent more time fixing the nicks he made than he ever saved on new ones. Some things just aren't worth the hassle.
