The $80 boning knife I ruined in one shift

Bought a fancy new boning knife for $80. Thought I was hot stuff. Used it to cut through a frozen pork shoulder. Edged rolled over like a cheap penny. Took me two hours to fix it on the stone. Save your money and just use your cheap knife for frozen stuff.

Ugh, that "edged rolled over like a cheap penny" is the worst feeling.

You know what really gets me about that "edged rolled over like a cheap penny" thing? It's how it hits you right when you least expect it. Like you think you've got a good feel for your opponent, you're reading their moves, and then bam - they throw this weird little curveball that feels so cheap it almost makes you laugh. But it's not funny, it's just frustrating because it feels like they're not even trying hard, they just got lucky. Reminds me of when I used to play checkers with my grandpa and he'd win with this dumb move every time, and I'd be like "that's not even a real strategy." But then you realize, maybe it's just the game exposing your own blind spots. Not saying it's deep or anything, just that sometimes the cheap stuff works because we're too busy looking for something fancy

Oh man, that "cheap penny" line really hit hard for me too. I've been there with a couple knives myself, thinking I was being smart by spending more, only to get burned by something I should have seen coming. It's like the knife gods have a sick sense of humor sometimes. The worst part is that feeling of being so sure you made the right call, and then reality just slaps you in the face with it. Your grandpa checkers story is too real, those old tricks always work because we're trying too hard to be clever.
