Blew $180 on a 'lifetime' backpack that fell apart in 8 months
Bought this fancy hiking pack because the company claimed it was indestructible. First real trip to Rocky Mountain National Park and the shoulder strap ripped clean off. Anyone else get burned by warranty hype that means nothing when you actually try to use it?

okay but you gotta think about it this way, you took a hiking pack designed for light trail use to a national park and probably loaded it up like a moving van. that warranty covers defects, not you treating it like a 90s Jansport.

Oh man, that brings back memories. I once tried to return a tent to REI because the zipper broke, and they were super nice about it (you know, because of their famous return policy). But the guy at the counter basically gave me the same talk, @jakeperry, about how I'd packed it wet and stuffed it in a car trunk for a week. I didn't even think about the warranty on something like that, I just figured it was a defect.
