Appreciation post: the masking tape shim that saved a cabinet install in Ann Arbor
Had a wall that was out of plumb by about 3/8 inch on a kitchen job in Ann Arbor last week, and my usual wood shims were splitting every time I snugged the screws. I started folding strips of masking tape under the cabinet corners instead, and it held dead level with no cracking. Has anyone else used tape as a shim, and does it hold up better than cedar over time?
