Poured $150 into those European soft-close hinges that claimed never to fail
I ordered a batch of those fancy Blum hinges off a sketchy resale site last spring... they looked legit in the box. Within two months, four of them started sagging on a standard 3/4" plywood door. I should've known better than to save $40 on hardware. The local shop guy even warned me that knockoffs never hold up to daily use. Anyone else been burned by counterfeit hinges from those online marketplaces?

Man, "sketchy resale site" is right. I fell for the same thing with some "Salice" knockoffs a couple years back. What finally worked for me was buying direct from a local hardware distributor, not even a big box store. I paid $20 more per box but the difference was night and day. Those legit ones have been going strong for three years now with heavy cabinet doors. Your local shop guy wasn't just trying to upsell you, he was actually looking out.
