Blew out my knee on a ladder last week and finally switched to a harness

Ngl, I've been doing installs for 8 years and always thought harnesses were for rookies or linemen. Last Tuesday I was running a drop in a crawl space attic up in St. Paul and the extension ladder kicked out sideways. Landed hard on my right knee and it swelled up the size of a grapefruit. My foreman made me use a safety harness on the next job and honestly it's not nearly as annoying as I thought. Has anyone else here fought using gear for years and then changed your mind?

Wait, are you saying you were in a crawl space attic with a ladder that kicked out sideways? That's weird, most crawl spaces don't have enough headroom for a full extension ladder. You sure it wasn't a step stool or a shorter ladder you were on? I had a buddy who tried using a 6-footer in a low attic and it tipped because the feet were on a truss and not the floor.
