Commercial job in an office park taught me to always check the drop ceiling first

I had a gig last month at a 3 story office building over by the airport. Got up on the second floor and started fishing cable from the MDF room down the hall. Took me almost 2 hours to pull lines through conduit that kept snagging on old wiring. Finally got fed up and popped a ceiling tile to see what was up. Turns out someone had dropped a whole bundle of cat5 loose above the grid and it was all tangled around my pull string. Now I check the drop ceiling before I even start, saves me from fighting dead ends and wasted time. Has anyone else found weird stuff hidden above ceiling tiles that made your job harder?

Lmao @diana_moore75 that’s the real question. I popped one tile once and found a whole lunch bag plus a moldy apple core sitting right on top of the duct. Honestly was less grossed out and more confused how someone even got that up there. Like did they toss it during a remodel and just say “eh good enough”? Now every time I hear a crinkle above me I just assume it’s someone’s lost snack stash from 2018.

Did you find any old coffee cups or half-eaten sandwiches up there?
