Pro tip: spent 2 hours chasing a bad signal that turned out to be one staple
Ran a new drop in a crawlspace in Norfolk last month and the modem kept dropping every 20 minutes no matter how many times I reterminated the ends. Turned out a single cable staple was pinched down way too hard and crushed the center conductor, which I only found after running a TDR and walking the whole line twice. How do you all flag tight staples on a long rough-in so you don't have to crawl it twice?
Staples really aren't the problem for most people. At my office we had a guy who refilled staples every single week and his paperwork still came back rejected half the time. It was because he wasn't sorting the pages right before he even loaded the tray. The staple just holds the stack together, it doesn't fix a bad order or a missing signature. TDR matters but it's not some magic step that saves you from sloppy work. Feels like people blame the tool because it's easier than admitting the prep was rushed.
