TIL some people swear by hot-shoe repair while others just use epoxy
Last week I was fixing a Nikon D7000 in my shop and the flash hot-shoe was totally busted. I spent 45 minutes trying to solder a new one on but a buddy said he just uses JB Weld and it holds for years. What's the real line between a proper fix and a hack job on these things?

Used a two-part epoxy on an old Canon once after the solder pads lifted. That camera is still kicking five years later. No shame in going that route if the connection is solid.

Hold up, 5 years with epoxy on a hot-shoe? That sounds like a ticking time bomb to me. I get it if the pads are totally gone, but soldering is way more reliable if you have even a little bit of surface left. Epoxy just feels like you're crossing your fingers every time you pop a flash on there.
