Took me 8 years to realize I was cleaning sensor contacts wrong

I always used alcohol wipes on sensor contacts and wondered why they kept failing after 6 months. Last week a Canon repair manual from 1992 fell off the shelf at my shop in Portland. It said to use a dry eraser first and only touch the contacts with isopropyl if absolutely necessary. I tried the eraser method on a beaten up 5D Mark II and it fired right up. Been doing it this way for 7 days now with no problems. Anyone else been using the wrong method for years?

A 1992 manual just fell off a shelf? That's WILD.

Is it a sign from the universe or just bad shelving, @kelly61?
