Tried a drop of super glue on a stripped tripod screw and it held for 6 months
I had a Manfrotto tripod plate with a stripped 1/4-20 screw that kept spinning, so out of pure laziness I put one tiny drop of super glue on the threads and let it cure overnight. It held solid through a whole summer of beach shoots in Galveston, but when I finally tried to remove it with a proper screwdriver it snapped the head clean off. Should I just drill it out and tap a bigger size, or is there a trick to getting glued screws loose without wrecking the plate?
Did you ever try hitting it with a little heat from a hair dryer first? A buddy of mine did the same thing with a stripped mount screw on an old Gitzo head, and he said steady heat plus a rubber band on the screw head gave him just enough grip to break the glue loose. Worth a shot before you drill, since once that head snaps you're pretty much stuck tapping a bigger size anyway.
