Honestly, I just realized my old 0-degree bag has kept me warm through 27 nights below freezing, and that's a number I never expected to hit.
Ngl, I bought it on a clearance rack a decade ago and figured it was a cheap stopgap, but after tracking my trips, that thing has seen me through some seriously cold nights in the Adirondacks without a single shiver.

Without a single shiver" seems like a stretch for 27 nights. Gear always has its limits, and cheap stuff usually hits them faster. I'd guess you got lucky with your layers or the weather reports were off.

Ever notice how people act like a good result with basic gear is some kind of lie? It's the same with tools or cars. If something works fine without costing a lot, folks assume you're hiding the catch or just got lucky. They can't accept that sometimes simple stuff just does the job.
