Hot take: a guy at REI talked me out of the ultralight pad I wanted and now I can't decide who was right
I went in ready to drop $180 on a 12 ounce inflatable pad for my trip to the Porcupine Mountains last month, and the guy at the counter told me flat out that I'd be cold and miserable at 28 degrees. I bought the heavier 2 pound closed cell pad instead, slept fine, but my pack went from 22 pounds to almost 26 and my knees felt it on day two. So was he looking out for me or just steering me to what he had in stock? Anybody else get talked out of gear and end up second guessing it?
