Overheard a guy at the fuel station talking about tent stakes

Stopped for gas near Flagstaff and this older fella was telling his buddy he only uses 12 inch aluminum stakes, not the little ones that come with tents. Said he lost a cheap dome tent in a gust on the Mogollon Rim back in 2018 and never looked back. Kind of hit me that I've been blaming my tent for flapping around at night when the real weak link is just the hardware I never think about. Anyone else swap out the stock stakes for longer ones and notice a big difference?
