Question about the new park rules at Lake Tahoe

I was camping at Emerald Bay last weekend and saw a ranger give a $75 ticket to a guy with a regular cooler. The new rule says you need a bear-proof model, but the signs are tiny and hidden behind trees. It felt like a trap more than a safety thing. Has anyone else gotten hit with this fine?

Man, that's rough. My buddy Dave got nailed with the same thing last month at Meeks Bay. He had his old red cooler sitting right by the picnic table, and a ranger came out of nowhere, no warning, just started writing. Dave argued about the signs, but the ranger just pointed to a small post way back in the bushes. It totally felt like a gotcha moment to fund the park, not to keep bears safe. He was fuming about it for weeks.

Sounds like they're hiding those signs on purpose...

Those signs are practically invisible. Did the ranger at least give a warning before writing the ticket, or was it straight to the fine?
