Swapped my inflatable pad for foam after a cold night near Flagstaff

I always thought air pads were the only way to go until I woke up shivering at 2am with a slow leak and a numb hip, the temp dropped to 28 degrees. I switched to a closed-cell foam mat for a three day hike last weekend and honestly slept fine, even on rocky ground. Anyone else made the switch and never looked back, or do you still trust inflatables?}

Ever notice how the more complicated something is, the more likely it's gonna fail when you need it most? Same thing happens with my car, my phone, everything really. Simple gear just works, and that peace of mind is worth more than a cushy night's sleep. I made the switch a couple years back after a similar freezing disaster, and I've never had a bad night since. Sure, it's a little harder on the hips, but I roll over a few times and I'm fine. Plus, you never have to worry about patching anything in the dark, which is a win in my book.
