The day I realized I'd been setting up my tent wrong for 3 years

So I'm at this campsite near Lake Tahoe last month and this older guy walks over while I'm struggling with my tent poles for 20 minutes. He just laughs and shows me I've been crossing the poles wrong this whole time. Apparently the sleeves are supposed to go a certain way so you don't have to fight the fabric. Anyone else had that moment where a stranger pointed out something basic you missed?

Man it's funny how many things in life are like that - you just keep doing something the hard way until someone casually shows you the trick and you feel like an idiot for years.
