A guy at my gym got canceled over a 2019 tweet, and I almost made it worse by defending him
So I'm at this gym in Phoenix back in March, and a guy I know from the squat rack gets called out on Twitter for a dumb joke he posted 5 years ago about a female referee. People start tagging his job, his sponsor, the whole thing, and it blows up in like 48 hours. I jumped into the replies to say 'come on, it was 2019,' and someone screenshotted my comment and started digging through my old posts too. I deleted my reply, apologized for making it about me, and just let his situation play out, and he ended up losing a local sponsorship but keeping his job. The whole thing made me wonder, when is jumping in to defend someone actually helping versus just putting a target on your own back?
