A recruiter in Chicago told me my resume was a list of duties and I sent 47 more applications anyway
"You're telling me what you were responsible for, not what you did," she said on a Friday call about my 3 page resume. I ignored it and kept applying for 6 weeks with the same format, and tracked exactly 3 callbacks out of 47 sends. After I rewrote every bullet to lead with a number or a result, I got 5 callbacks out of 12, so what did someone tell you about your resume that you blew off at first?
I used to roll my eyes HARD at that same advice because I thought listing my duties showed how much I could handle. But yeah, the numbers do not lie in your post. Three out of 47 versus five out of 12 is a whole different world. Someone told me once to cut my resume to one page and I laughed at them, then spent months wondering why nobody called. When I finally did it and started each bullet with what actually happened because of me, my callback rate jumped almost overnight. So yeah, I was wrong and the recruiter was right, and it bugs me how long it took to admit that.
