I completely blanked during a client presentation last month

I was in a conference room with our biggest client, about to walk them through the quarterly financials. I opened the spreadsheet on the projector and my mind just went totally empty, I couldn't remember the main point I needed to make about their cash flow. I mumbled for about 30 seconds, then just stopped and said, 'Let me take a breath and start over.' I went back to my notes, found my place, and got through it, but it was so embarrassing. Has anyone else had a moment like that and found a good way to recover?

Oh man, that's the worst! My brain does that to me in the grocery checkout line, so doing it in front of a client sounds like a nightmare. Honestly, saying you need a breath and restarting is probably the most professional save you could have pulled off.

That 30 second blank feels like a full hour in real time. I've done it too, but @patricia_kelly is right, you handled it like a pro. Honestly, taking that breath is way better than trying to fake it. I once just said "wow, the numbers are really something" and pointed at the screen. They knew. Your way was smarter.
