Two years into a data entry role before I realized I was formatting numbers wrong

I spent 2 years manually formatting every cell in Excel at an insurance office in Austin because nobody told me custom number formats existed. Last week my coworker glanced at my screen and asked why I was doing it that way. How long did it take you to find out you were doing your basic tasks the hard way?
