My pivot from office IT to pest control took 8 months longer than I expected
I figured switching careers would be a quick 3 month thing, just update my resume and apply. But the real hurdle was getting my pest control license in Texas, which needed 200 hours of classroom time plus a 6 month apprenticeship. The classroom part alone took me 4 months because I was still working my IT job on evenings. I also had to pass the state exam twice before I got it, which added another 8 weeks of studying. Has anyone else had their career switch timeline blow up because of licensing requirements?

Did you ever get frustrated with all the studying? I used to think licensing was just a formality, like paperwork you fill out. But watching my brother try to get his electrician license in California changed my mind. He spent over a year on classroom hours alone while working full time, and failed his practical exam twice before passing. It really opened my eyes to how serious some of these requirements are even if they seem like red tape at first glance.
