Warning: that coffee shop job I took for "fun" turned into a real career shift
I started barista-ing part-time at a local spot in Portland just to get out of the house after my desk job burned me out. Six months in, I realized I loved the fast pace and customer connections way more than my spreadsheet life, so I'm now training to manage their second location. Has anyone else accidentally fallen into a totally different field from a side gig?

Dude, that's so cool. Three years ago I started bussing tables at a diner just for some extra cash and now I'm the head line cook.

...cause honestly I used to roll my eyes at people who said a side gig turned into a career. Felt like one of those things people just say to sound interesting or whatever. But seeing this play out for you and a few other folks I know, I gotta admit I was wrong. When you're not chasing a paycheck and just doing something for the hell of it, you actually pay attention to what makes you happy. There's something about not having the pressure that lets you see the job for what it really is. Glad it worked out for you, that's a pretty solid life lesson right there.
