Why does every career coach say 'just update your LinkedIn' like it's magic?
I've been job hunting for 4 months now in Austin and I keep seeing advice to 'optimize my profile' but my resume is what actually got me interviews. Has anyone else landed a role based on a random connection instead of a keyword-filled profile?

Right, because hiring managers are definitely spending their weekends scrolling LinkedIn instead of reviewing your actual resume.

Agree with @parkerl33 on this one though. I keep seeing people act like LinkedIn is the only way to get noticed, but have you actually asked hiring managers what they pay attention to? I asked a few at a networking event and they all said the same thing - they barely check LinkedIn. They look at your application materials when they're actually hiring. So why are we all putting so much effort into a platform that's basically a public diary with a job title attached? The whole thing feels like a distraction from actually applying and following up the old school way.
