Why nobody talks about losing your work friends after a career switch
Tbh I switched from teaching to an office job six months ago and thought the hard part would be learning new software. But what really got me was how quiet my lunch breaks got. I went from chatting with five other teachers every day to sitting alone with my sandwich. Has anyone else dealt with the loneliness of leaving a team you saw daily for years?

Five years of teaching and nobody warned you the loneliness would hit harder than the new job itself. I switched careers a while back and still remember that first week eating cold pizza at my desk like it was yesterday. Its wild how much we take daily coworker chatter for granted until its gone.

Man I had that same cold pizza thing happen my first week at a sales job after leaving a school. @the_ben you're spot on about the chatter thing. I never realized how much I relied on that 5 minute hallway chat to reset my brain until it was gone.
