My uncle told me to always cut crown flat on the saw and I finally tried it

He said it for years but I kept doing it the hard way, holding it up against the fence. Last month on a kitchen job in Bellingham, I had a ton of weird angles and gave his method a shot. It took me about an hour to get the compound miter settings right for the spring angle, but after that it was way faster and the joints were perfect. Anyone else have a 'flat cut' crown trick that saves time?

It's funny how we stick to the hard way of doing things just because it's what we know. Your story about the crown molding is a perfect example. I see this all the time with people who refuse to use a speed square for basic cuts. They finally try it and realize they've been wasting effort for years. There's a stubborn pride in doing things the "real" way that just makes work harder.

Ever think it's about looking skilled instead of getting it done? I used to measure everything twice and cut slow to feel like a real craftsman. Now I just grab the right tool and save an hour, no shame at all.
