That cheap combination square I swore by turned out to be garbage

I used a $8 square from the hardware store for about 2 years on jobs. Kept wondering why my miters were never quite tight. Finally borrowed a friend's Starrett at a job site near Portland and realized I was off by almost 1/16th on every single cut. Has anyone else had a tool they trusted fail them this bad?

Whoa, hold on. A full 1/16th of an inch off? That's not just a little bit fussy, that's a whole different angle on every cut. I can't believe you trusted that thing for two years, that must have been driving you crazy without even realizing it. I had a similar thing happen with a cheap level once, but nothing that bad. Really makes you wonder how many other little things on a jobsite are just a tiny bit off.

Everything in life is off by 1/16th and we just accept it.
