Warning: My old miter saw stand almost cost me a finger in Boise
I was cutting crown molding on a job site there, and the whole thing shifted when I made the cut. I had to grab the saw to keep it from falling, and my hand got way too close to the blade. Has anyone found a stand that really locks down tight for those angled cuts?

Ever think about how the floor itself might be the problem? I've had stands that were solid until I set them up on uneven concrete or those spongy job site plywood floors.

Parker883 has a good point about the floor, but the real weak link is often the saw's own mounting points. A lot of those stands, even with a foot pedal, just clamp to the saw's base rails. If those rails aren't rock solid on the saw itself, you'll still get movement. My old saw had a little play in them, and no stand clamp could fix that. You need a stand that grips the actual saw body, or a saw with truly solid rails, to stop that scary shift on angles.

Ever have that heart-stopping moment when the whole saw wants to walk? After a close call with a wobbly stand, I switched to one with a foot pedal clamp. It locks the saw base from the front and back, not just the sides. That extra grip made all the difference for holding my saw steady on bevel cuts. It's not fancy, but it doesn't budge.
