I bought a fancy knee kicker for $400 and it was a total waste
Everyone in my area talks up the high-end knee kickers, so I finally bought a top model last year. I figured it would make stretching carpet in big rooms faster and easier. After using it on maybe six jobs, I realized my old $80 basic kicker did the same job just fine. The expensive one is heavier, harder to adjust quickly, and honestly didn't give me a better stretch on the last two Berbers I installed. I'm out over $300 for basically no gain. It sits in my van now while I use my old reliable. Has anyone else found that some of the 'pro' gear is just overkill for most residential jobs?

My buddy had the exact same thing happen with a power stretcher.

Yeah, "exact same thing" is the key part. It means this isn't a one-off fluke. These tools probably have a common design flaw or a weak part that keeps failing the same way. Makes you wonder if the manufacturer knows about it.
