I finally listened to that old installer about stretching seams
Had a chat with a guy named Pete who's been doing carpet for 40 years. He told me I was rushing my seam work and not leaving enough slack before cutting. Tried his method on a 12x15 bedroom last Tuesday and the seam practically disappeared. Has anyone else had an older installer give them a tip that totally changed their process?

Funny how the old guys always have a trick that looks simple but makes all the difference. It's like that with most things in life, the people who have been doing it longest know the shortcuts that aren't really shortcuts, just smarter ways to work. Pete's advice is probably the same kind of wisdom you'd get from a mechanic who's been turning wrenches since the 70s.

My grandpa taught me to hold the hammer near the head for better control, still use that trick today.
