Spent 4 hours fighting with a single seam last Tuesday

I got called to fix a seam that had popped in a living room. Figured it would be a quick 30 minute job. Turns out the previous guy had used some off-brand glue that would not bond with new adhesive. I ended up having to cut out a 3 foot section and redo the whole seam from scratch. Took me from 10am till after 2pm just to get it looking clean. Has anyone else run into bad glue from a previous install that made a simple fix turn into a nightmare?

Did your buddy end up having to do that whole trick where you heat the old glue up with a heat gun before scraping it? I heard that works sometimes but you gotta be real careful not to melt the backing.
