Lost $22 on a 'bulk rice' deal at Costco that turned out to be a huge mistake
I grabbed a 25 lb bag of jasmine rice for $22 at the Costco in Bakersfield last week thinking I'd save money long term. Turns out my pantry got infested with weevils within 10 days because I didn't seal it right, and I had to toss the whole thing plus $8 of other dry goods nearby. Anyone got a cheap storage trick that actually keeps bugs out without buying fancy containers?
Toss that bag in the freezer for like 3 days first to kill any eggs already in there, then move it to a food grade bucket with a lid that seals tight. Those $5 buckets from the hardware store work just as good as the fancy vacuum ones and the freezer trick is what really stops the bugs before they start. Learned this the hard way after losing a whole bag of flour the same way.
