TIL a wire brush can actually damage stainless steel flue liners

I was using a standard wire brush last week on a customer's liner and my buddy stopped me saying it causes micro-scratches that lead to rust, and now I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this happen or if I should just stick to poly brushes?

Learned that one the hard way" hits close to home. My buddy Mark tried to save money by DIY-ing his liner and ended up with a 3 inch tear the first time he filled it. He used this cheap patch kit from the hardware store and it held for like two days before bubbling up and failing. Had to drain the whole thing and call in a pro anyway.
