Spent 20 minutes with my aunt's meal prep system and it changed how I see leftovers
I was over at my aunt's place last Sunday helping her clean out her garage fridge. She has this rule where she labels every container with a piece of masking tape and the date she put it in. She told me if it's been in there more than 4 days, it goes straight to the compost bin. I used to just smell things and guess. Now I do the same thing at home and I'm throwing out way less food because I actually eat the stuff before it hits that 4 day mark. Has anyone else tried a hard rule like that and did it actually stick?

That 4 day rule might work great but I once dated a guy who kept leftovers in his trunk for a week.

My buddy swore by the 4 day rule until his girlfriend found a month old burrito under his passenger seat. That trunk story hits different though, makes me realize some people take "saving it for later" way too literally. I used to think food safety was overblown until I heard about that, now I toss anything that's been out of sight for more than a couple days.
