A guy at my local repair cafe in Portland taught me how to fix my own toaster in 10 minutes flat
He just walked me through cleaning the contacts with a little sandpaper and now it works better than new, has anyone else found a repair cafe that gave them a skill they actually use?

Learned to fix a sewing machine at mine, still use that skill all the time.

Learned how to mend jeans and replace zippers at mine. That skill alone has saved me hundreds of dollars over the years. It's such a handy thing to know when you have kids too because they rip their clothes constantly. Plus it's kind of relaxing once you get the hang of it, just sitting there with a needle and thread. Fixing things yourself just feels better than throwing them away you know?
