That solar rebate program in my county is a complete scam

I applied for the local rebate back in March and they told me the funds ran out by April, but a neighbor got approved last week with the same setup. How does a county run out of money for something they advertise as unlimited?

Heard from a buddy who works in county admin that these rebate programs get hit hard by the "first come first served" rule, even if the ads say "while funding lasts." Sounds like they budget a fixed amount each fiscal year and when it's gone, it's gone. Your neighbor probably got lucky with the exact timing or maybe applied right after the county got a new batch of money from the state. Still feels shady to advertise it as open ended when it really isn't. I'd call the county office and ask for the exact date the funds renewed, that's the only way to know if you got screwed or not.

@samward I read that county rebate funds often reset July 1st, same as the fiscal year.
