Tried swapping my lawn for native plants in Austin... still not done 4 months later
I thought ripping out 200 square feet of St. Augustine grass and putting in Texas sage and lantana would take a weekend. But the soil here is basically clay and I kept finding old sprinkler heads buried everywhere. Plus the deer ate half my first batch of plants I put in back in March. Has anyone else had a simple landscaping project turn into a whole season's worth of work?

Take it easy, it's just some plants and dirt. You make it sound like you're building a house. Four months is a long time for 200 square feet but yeah, landscaping can drag out if you overthink it. The deer thing is annoying but that's on you for not looking up what they eat around here. Just toss the rest in the ground and call it done. It'll grow or it won't, no need to make a big deal out of it.

Wait, isn't 200 square feet a pretty standard size for a small garden bed?
